Environmental Standards Professionals are a group of diverse environmental and sustainability professionals. Among them are environmental scientists, technicians, engineers, biologists, auditors, managers, consultants, and executives – all of whom hold essential, specialized knowledge in the environmental sector.

The objectives of the proposed Certified Environmental Standards Practitioner Foundation Scheme are to:

1. Assess, recognize, and hold people accountable as proficient and ethical environmental standards practitioners; and
2. Assure governments, industry, educational institutions, and the community of the professional standing of the Certified Environmental Standards Practitioners Foundation.

The Certified Environmental Standards Practitioner Foundation Scheme will assess a Certified Environmental Standards Practitioner’s Foundation ability to judge risk levels and identify required actions; advise on proportionality and adaptive management, including timing and sequencing of actions; assess projects’ performance throughout the project cycle; and recommend appropriate measures, including escalation to management in cases of poor performance or non-compliance. A Certified Environmental Standards Practitioner Foundation environmental professional has sufficient specific education, training, and experience necessary to exercise professional judgment to develop opinions and conclusions regarding given environmental conditions adequate to meet the objectives and performance factors of the rule of law or to ensure the environmentally benign response to such conditions. Therefore, Certified Environmental Standards Practitioner Foundation confers professionals with formal recognition of their unique experience, skills, competencies, and abilities in Environmental Standards Practice.
