Intermediate Environmental Standards Certified Professional (I-ESCP)

Environmental Standards Professionals are a group of diverse environmental and sustainability professionals. Among them are environmental scientists, technicians, engineers, biologists, auditors, managers, consultants, and executives – all of whom hold essential, specialized knowledge in the environmental sector.

The objectives of the Intermediate Environmental Standards Certified Professional (I-ESCP) Scheme are to:

  1. Assess, recognize, and hold people accountable as proficient and ethical environmental standards practitioners; and
  2. Assure governments, industry, educational institutions, and the community of the professional standing of the Intermediate Environmental Standards Certified Professional (I-ESCP) Scheme
Pre-Requisite

Option 1: F-ESCP with at least 3-yrs experience and at least one re-certification

Option 2: Degree holders in Science, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and other related fields and Completion Certificate (Track A – Regular Short Courses or B – Advanced Certificate Courses) of the SPESSE Centres of Excellence

  • 2-year environmental standards practical experience  
  • Degree holders in unrelated fields to commence from F-ESCP and get here after 3 years post F- ESCP experience.

The target audience for the Intermediate Environmental Standards Certified Professional (I-ESCP) Scheme includes Environmental Standards Professionals that intend to practice in Nigeria at all levels in public and private sectors. These are individuals considered to have educational qualifications, technical skills, and practical experience relevant to the Environmental Standards Practice.

  • Becoming a I-ESCP demonstrates that an individual has been judged to be meeting professional standards, as well as implementing and supporting good environmental practices. This incorporates not only knowledge and awareness, but skills and application of knowledge in practice.
  • An I-ESCP must be able to demonstrate:
    • Evidence of their contribution to sustainability and environmental management.
    • Supervisory or technical responsibility.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Personal commitment to professional standards, recognizing obligations to society, the profession, and the environment.
  • Using the post-nominal letters “I-ESCP” after your name provides an easy way for professionals to signal this environmental competence and broad professionalism to employers, stakeholders, colleagues, and clients.

    6. How long does it take to receive my Certificate?

    Once you have successfully passed the exam, and/or clear the interview your digital certificate will be issued within 5-7 business days depending on internal processes.

    7. How can I prepare for the test?

    It is recommended to go through the training/resources from the SPESSE Centres of Excellence &/ or go through the range of study materials, including practice exams, video lectures, and reading materials, available through the Learning Management System (LMS) on our portal.

    8. What is the certification Validity?

    The certification is valid for two years from the date of issuance.

    9. What is the renewal process?

    To renew your certification, you must either retake the certification exam or complete a specified number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within the certification's validity period.

    10. Am I required to complete Continuing Education Units (CEU) for renewal?

    Yes, completing CEUs is one of the options for renewing your certification. You will need to earn a certain number of CEUs to be eligible for renewal without retaking the exam.
